Tommy Brümmer

Tommy attended the University of Stellenbosch and studied B.Sc in Geology and Geography. Tommy then obtained a Master’s in Town and Regional Planning and qualified as a Town and Regional Planner in 1980 and was registered with the Council for Town and Regional Planners in 1984.

Tommy’s career started at the City of Cape Town working in the statutory planning division under Ivan Speed and Peter de Tolly. Having learnt about the systems at the Council he joined Dawid du Plooy at VKE Engineers and Planners and worked with them for 5 years. From there he joined Tim Turner in a partnership until 1994 when he decided to establish his own town planning practice which has grown from strength to strength. Moving from Pinelands in 2016 to the Bo-kaap the firm now has 5 registered town planners and 2 planners in training.

Tommy is an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with a passion for new challenges and adventures.
The practice has been selective in the type of planning work undertaken and has focussed on development control and land use management. Clients include listed property funds, private property developers, property owners and institutions.

Arina De Villiers

Arina joined the company in 1996, soon after obtaining a Master’s Degree in Town and Regional Planning from the University of Stellenbosch. She has been involved in a wide range of land use applications, specialising in rezonings and removal of restrictions applications on the Atlantic Seaboard. Having worked in the Cape Town metropole for over 30 years, she has gained invaluable insight and knowledge of the ever-changing zoning regulations, the intricacies of how the regulations, together with other applicable law, are interpreted and enforced, every so often at the direction of our courts.

Cor Van Der Merwe

B.Econ (Stell) M(TRP) - Pr. Planner - A/2430/2016

Cor studied at Stellenbosch University, graduating in 1997, and has built an extensive career in town planning. Born in Namibia, he spent 30 years in the country, including more than five years working for the Windhoek City Council, before joining the Cape Town City Council and continuing his career in the city. Outside of work, Cor enjoys travelling, history, art and music, often combining these interests when exploring new places. He lives in a 100-year-old Victorian house with his partner and their lively Jack Russell, George.

Quintus Thom

MSc (Property) - Pr. Planner - A/989/1997

Quintus studied town planning at the University of Stellenbosch and has been working in the planning field since 1994. Other than private practice and the City of Cape Town, he also worked for the Table Mountain National Park where he gained experience in environmental and tourism planning. He joined the Tommy Brummer Team in 2006. Outside of the work environment Quint enjoys a game of squash and would spend much more time in the bushveld, if he could.

Campbell Brümmer

Campbell joined the Tommy Brummer team in 2019 and completed his Master’s in Town & Regional Planning from the University of Pretoria in 2022. Prior to becoming a planner he was a professionally registered quantity surveyor and worked for various dynamic QS firms, property developers and property funds in Cape Town. Now able to leverage his extensive experience in property development to provide valuable insights and contributions to various planning projects. Outside of work, Campbell enjoys an active lifestyle with his family, including hiking, cycling, swimming, running, and keeping up with his two active children.

Hayley Geary

Hayley graduated from UCT in 2014 with a Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning. Hayley is a determined and enthusiastic planner with experience in a wide variety of projects. She joined the firm in 2017 after spending valuable time working in the Northern suburbs. Hayley loves running, the outdoors and travelling with her gorgeous husband where they explore fascinating places around South Africa, sometimes with their cat.

Georgina Julies

Receptionist

Georgina Julies joined the firm in March 2017 as a Receptionist and Office Administrator. Her responsibilities include reception management, providing secretarial support to Tommy Brummer, and assisting the team with the efficient and smooth running of the office. Known for her professionalism, strong organisational skills and caring personality, Georgina is a valued member of the support team. She holds a Secretarial Certificate from Varsity College. Outside of work, Georgina enjoys spending time outdoors and making special memories with her family and friends. She values quality time with loved ones and enjoys an active and social lifestyle.

Marili Thomson

Marili joined the team in January 2022. She was previously Financial Manager in Education and before then Operational and Financial Manager at an international non-profit organization, specializing in biodynamic farming. She has a passion for the stories finance tell you and how one can improve on it. Although Marili has no social filter, her family and friends are happy to share their lives with her, as her language of love is cooking. She believes that no matter how fortunate you are, you need to live life in a way that there is always something to look forward to!

Seth Alistoun

BSc (Hons) Geomatics; M (TRP) – C. Planner – C/10205/2025

Seth joined the Tommy Brummer team in early 2025 as a Candidate Planner and has been building his expertise alongside a highly experienced team. He brings a diverse background from 7 years in the commercial shipping sector, spanning container shipping and the oil and gas industry. After returning to shore, he completed a BSc in Geomatics in 2022 and a Master’s in City and Regional Planning in 2024 at the University of Cape Town. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with friends, family, and nature, whether hiking or swimming.

Dane Leo

BTech (TRP) - Pr.Planner - A/2214/2015

Dane is a registered professional town planner and consultant who completed his Town Planning degree at CPUT in 2012 and holds a certificate in Architectural Technology. He spent two years with the City of Cape Town before moving into private practice in 2013, gaining broad experience in planning and development. He joined the Tommy Brummer team in 2025 as a consultant, bringing his technical and practical planning expertise and experience to the firm. He is currently completing his MSc in Property Studies at UCT. He has a particular interest in township layout design and affordable housing. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Rowan Rademeyer

BTech (TRP), BSc (Hons) Environmental Management, Pr. Planner (A/3150/2022)

Rowan joined the Tommy Brummer team in early 2026 as a consultant. He is a registered professional town planner with experience in the private sector since 2011. Rowan holds a BTech in Town Planning, completed in 2012, and a BSc (Honours) in Environmental Management, completed in 2018. He brings a practical, solutions-based approach to his work, supported by extensive experience across a range of planning projects. Outside of work, Rowan is passionate about the ocean and is a keen surfer. He also enjoys playing guitar, spending time in nature, and taking long walks on the beach with his partner and their energetic Golden Retriever.

Imaan Barnes

Adv. Diploma (URP) - Junior Town Planner

Imaan joined the Tommy Brummer team in April 2026 as the newest member of the team. She holds a Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning, completed in 2023, and an Advanced Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning, completed in 2024, from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). She is developing her experience in land use planning and management, working alongside the experienced team at Tommy Brummer. Her work includes assisting with planning applications, preparing reports, maps and figures, and supporting a range of land use management processes. She enjoys learning from her colleagues and gaining experience across different aspects of the planning profession. Outside of work, Imaan enjoys spending time at the beach, being outdoors and, most importantly, spending time with her cat, Moo.
